Choosing an art or craft course
We are all artists inside. Some people realise that and want to develop their artistic abilities. There are so many different art or craft courses that you can find on this site, that it can become a little confusing. So here are some suggestions of art courses and craft courses you might want to do. Some are ones you may have heard of and others may be new to you.

Art courses usually refer to the creation of a picture on a medium such as paper or canvas. They can be very specific, for example drawing classes, watercolour classes, oil painting classes; these all refer to the materials used to make the picture. Landscape refers to painting or drawing the outdoors, portrait is painting people, and life drawing or life art classes involve studying and drawing or painting the naked form.

If you don’t want to draw or paint but still feel creative then you could try sculpture classes, which involve making 3D models. These could be by carving something, by casting, or by moulding materials. You might want to learn pottery or ceramics, and again this could cover many different courses, from beginners’ pot throwing lessons, to advanced glazing techniques, or making specific items.

If pottery or sculpture aren’t to your taste then there are many textiles courses available. You could have quilting lessons, or design and print your own textiles, use them in upholstery classes, on chairs you have made in a woodwork class – the possibilities are endless.

If you like jewellery, then why not try your hand at a jewellery making course? There are many options available from metalwork, to enamelling, stone work, beading or even leather work. There are even some courses available where you can design and make your own unique wedding rings.

If you like the sound of working with glass you also have a number of options. You can attend glass making lessons, perhaps getting to blow your own glass to make vases and bowls. Stained glass courses are very popular, as are glass painting classes. You can also learn how to make items of fused glass, possibly incorporating them into jewellery you have made.

Whether you have an existing craft hobby you want to improve, or whether you want to try something new, you will find something to inspire you. We would love to hear about your art and craft course successes so please visit our forums and share your stories.
